Whats the criteria for changing CMOS battery..?

What is d indication of weak CMOS battery?

How can we come to know that its time to replace CMOS battery?

After how long it should be replaced?

Sometimes in my PC, Windows is loaded after 10-15 mins of CPU startup....n sometimes it does not get loaded at all.... Can CMOS battery be d culprit for dat??? its one year old...|||Contrary to the others who have answered, the CMOS battery CAN have an indirect relationship with the boot process. It not only is responsible for keeping the RTC (Real Time Clock) updated and current, but it also is what keep the BIOS from losing it%26#039;s information. On many (especially older) motherboards, certain timing settings that the BIOS has %26quot;learned%26quot; from previous boots are stored, and helps speed the boot time; this is known as %26quot;Quick Boot%26quot; (no, Quick Book is not merely bypassing some tests).

If the CMOS battery is dying, it could cause the BIOS to dump these stored settings. Additionally, the RTC works with the CPU clock on some processors for timing purposes (although this is much less common now).

A completely dead CMOS battery CAN prevent proper POSTing, especially if the dead battery begins to draw power (sponge effect).|||cmos battery does a few simple things like the time of the pc, it has nothing to do with the opearting system, could be a virus

i think this virus is called virut.q and it infects the startup files and low level sectors in the harddrive, to cure this you wil need specialist help

go to http://www.cablemodz.com and post your problem there, they should help you straight away|||That should not be causing your problem considering your it is only one year old. The battery should last six to eight years. There is something else wrong seems like you have registry and startup files corrupted try to do a virus scan and registry clean up. Otherwise you can try the system restore to a previous date and if all else fails re-install windows. If windows does not load try to hit F8 during start up to go into safe mode and see if you can clean up your computer there. Good luck.|||A symptom of a dead CMOS battery is when your computer can no longer keep time. Another symptom is when your BIOS settings fail to persist (keep resetting to defaults), however most newer BIOSes aren%26#039;t affected by this since they store settings in non-volatile flash memory.

The boot process doesn%26#039;t depend on the CMOS battery.
